Project Description
Terraced Backyard on Slope
This slope planting has a rambling nature of low flowering shrubs and perennials in an old Chestnut Hill, MA suburban landscape. All too often slope gardens miss the mark and turn into a messy hodgepodge of planting. But the relaxed disorder of native planting has been controlled and has a careful underlying framework of meandering paths, stone terraced walls and garden destinations. The simple act of viewing this garden from the residence across the yard has become a sense of delight for this ecologically minded family.
Flower Beds and Treehouse
In this slope garden, the structural elements of the stone walls, patios and the wooden structure are strongly evident. An overlay by soft, gentle masses of plant materials creates the magical sense of place and discovery. The combination of shapes, textures and colors with hard materials builds the distinct and artful character of this garden.

Client Comments
I can’t say enough good things about Terrascapes after having worked with them for over five years. Susan designed a total transformation our large and challenging yard/garden in 2015, with an emphasis on creating ‘spaces’, not just putting in plants. Her gardening team have worked closely with us on maintenance ever since. The garden is magnificent and brings my whole family joy every day.
