Water Features
Water in the garden has the rare capacity to introduce an aura of tranquility into the garden. Whether in the form of a water basin, formal or informal pools, swirling ponds and waterfalls, or even birdbaths, both moving and still water have the capacity to focus our attention and thereby calm us down. Water is absolutely central to the success of any garden.

- Koi Pond and Waterfall (Close-Up)A site that had been thought to be a weedy slope turned out to be hiding a buried pond. We renovated it adding a waterfall and some fish. Some neighborly frogs moved in, too.
- Koi Pond and Waterfall (Additional View)
- Koi Pond and Waterfall (Waterfall View)A slight slope lends itself very well to the creation of a waterfall. We partnered with a pond company to build this waterfall which affords the homeowners the luxury of sitting in the nearby porch and soaking in the sound of cascading water.
- Koi Pond and WaterfallTwo speeds of water flow are available with a pump switch and determine either torrent or trickle sounds of the cascades for a desired effect.
- Koi Pond and Waterfall (Frog Ornament in the Waterfall)If you look closely at the waterfall you will notice a local friend rafting the rapids. (Tasteful garden ornaments are always fun to discover in any garden.)
- Koi Pond and Waterfall (View from the Sun Room)It has been shown that viewing and listening to water has a restorative effect on humans. Great care was taken to place the waterfall within site lines of the sun room for maximum relaxation effect.
- Koi Pond and Waterfall (Slope View)The slope around the pond and waterfall was planted with erosion control ground covers, hostas, ferns, ajuga, miniature bleeding hearts, European ginger and shade perennials such as umbrella plant, astilbe and clumping bamboo.
- Stone Basin Water Feature and Doggie BowlWithout the stone basin this garden wouldn't be nearly as charming or inclusive of the third member of the family, Maggie, the dog. It is viewed from the patio as garden art and serves as the water bowl for Maggie.
- Stone Basin Water Feature and Doggie Bowl (Spring)In spring the drought tolerant prairie grass and Snow in Summer contrast with the Mexican pebble bed surrounding the stone basin. The stone basin was hand carved by a local artisan in Rhode Island.
- Antique Faux Bois Bird BathI turned this concrete faux bois (fake wood) fountain into a bird bath. I picked it up at the Brimfield Antique Show for a bargain. We shop for clients if they don't have time, and we love it.
- Birdbath as Focal PointCentral to the circle garden is the birdbath. Seen from the kitchen window, it is a the focus of interest especially when the birds are drinking and bathing.
- Birdbath in the ShadeThis nice ceramic birdbath was the choice of the homeowners and is placed in site from the dining area.
- Wrought Iron BirdbathThis delicately scaled birdbath complements the exotic flowers behind it with a sense of time gone by.
- Classical Fountain and BirdbathA fountain style should harmonize with its garden space. In this old-world-style garden, this fountain fits right in. Immediately after filling it, the birds took a welcome sip.
- Classical Fountain and BirdbathSince this fountain is viewed from above, keeping the water clear for viewing the basin relief should be part of your routine garden maintenance.

- Bird BathsOne of our favorite site enhancements with a purpose are birdbaths. We recommend them in almost every garden. They add a vertical interest to the garden and much needed hydration for the birds during hot summer months.
- Classical Fountain and BirdbathPlants around the fountain include allysum, hostas, ferns and Sweet Autumn clematis in the corner.
- Rain Chain as Garden DecorationRain chains can be functional and decorative and are terrific way to introduce vertical interest. We love to install rain chains.
